Earlier this year, I signed the Two Percent Pledge and agreed to donate 2% of my proceeds from the Uber IPO to worthy causes. With the end of the stock-lockup it gives me great pleasure to announce the following recipients of my donation.

Dev/Mission is a non-profit that I helped co-found in order to help introduce young adults to careers in Tech. Our focus has been on young adults in San Francisco who have traditionally been underserved with STEM opportunities. Naturally, it made sense that part of my Two Percent Pledge should find its way over to Dev/Mission.

Many of you who know me know that I’ve been passionate about addressing the housing crisis in San Francisco ever since I first moved to the Bay Area six years ago. Mission Housing Development Corporation is doing an amazing job tackling this issue from the affordable housing angle. I don’t know of any other organization doing more work to help build housing specifically for low-income residents in San Francisco.

San Francisco desperately needs more housing of all kinds, which is why I followed up my donation to Mission Housing Development Corporation with a donation to YIMBY Action. YIMBY Action has been around more-or-less since the very beginning of the YIMBY movement in San Francisco (at least as I know it) and since then they’ve tirelessly worked to advocate for more-housing policies and more-housing candidates. They’ve also done an amazing job when it comes to holding cities accountable for building the additional housing that San Francisco, the Bay Area, and California as a whole so critically need.

If you’re a fellow Two Percent Pledger, I highly recommend donating at least a portion of your proceeds to one or more of the organizations above. And if you’re not, you should still consider donating to one of these organizations! They’re all doing amazing work to make the Bay Area better for everyone.
